Scenic Carpenter

JRDF are a small but rapidly growing family business based in the south of Scotland. We specialise in creating highly detailed authentic replicas for events and permanent installations. Our projects go from the creation of small models that sit in your hand to large immersive experiences that literally make you feel like you're in another world.

Due to several new long-term projects with our client, Cloud Imperium Games, we are expanding our team to include a Scenic Carpenter.  Our ideal candidate is an experienced kitchen/shop fitter or exhibition/event installer who will work with the wider team to help us deliver the incredible projects that JRDF are known for.  The ideal candidate will understand and use a broad range of materials and techniques, utilise creative problem solving including the use of non-traditional techniques throughout their work as well as collaborate and coordinate with our dedicated team of individuals who take pride in their work and ensure quality at all points of the process. You will have previous experience in a similar field, preferably within film set, fit-out or furniture manufacture.

 

Job Overview:

You will be a skilled carpenter who will work alongside our designers and finishers to create incredible builds to exacting client specifications.  A typical day may include:

  • Preparation of parts from machinists ready for assembly. Trained and familiar with all the usual woodworking machinery. Develop alternate means for solving special designing problems relating to structure, material, cost, size, weight or artistic objective of set pieces.

  • Assemble project elements. Understand and apply appropriate products and techniques to ensure that built components are ready for finishing.  Demonstrate a high level of proficiency at a bench, with both hand and power tools.

  • Coordinate and collaborate with wider team. Have a thirst for learning new techniques to further themselves and the team. Work in close collaboration with the rest of the team to ensure the delivery in a timely and durable manner. Managing own workload to deadlines, highlighting where there are likely to be delays.

  • Team Leadership. Act as a team leader during installations and have awareness and oversight of the project during manufacture.

  • Ensure that work is completed in the correct and safe manner and that current regulations, good housekeeping, guidance notes and approved codes of practice are followed at all times.

Skills & Experience:

  • At least 2 years experience working professionally in the industry, preferably within film/TV set, fit-out or furniture manufacture

  • Ability to use woodwork machinery and hand tools

  • Ability to read technical drawings

  • Applicants must currently have the permanent right to work in the UK; visa applications cannot be supported. 

  • Driving Licence and access to own vehicle.

 

Key Information:

Salary:               £25-30K commensurate with experience.

Annual Leave: 28 days including bank holidays. ‍

Hours:             Full time, 8-6pm (4days a week)

Candidate will be required to work occasional weekends for events/installs.

 

Supplemental pay:

  • Trimesterly pay review/bonus
