CAD Designer

 

JRDF are a small but rapidly growing family business based in the south of Scotland. We specialise in creating highly detailed authentic replicas for events and permanent installations. Our projects go from the creation of small models that sit in your hand to large immersive experiences that literally make you feel like you're in another world.

 Due to several new long-term projects with our client, Cloud Imperium Games, we are expanding our design team to include a CAD Designer to work alongside our Creative Director.  Our ideal candidate is a CAD enthusiast, specialising in SketchUp (essential) and Fusion 360 (desirable), who will work with the wider team to help us deliver the incredible projects that JRDF are known for.  You will utilise creative problem solving, have excellent attention to detail, the ability to work under pressure, as well as collaborate and coordinate with our dedicated team of individuals who take pride in their work and ensure quality at all points of the process. You will have previous experience in a similar field, preferably within film set/office fit-out/ furniture manufacture.

 

Job Overview:

You will be a hands-on engineer and problem solver experienced in designing low-volume, high-precision projects.  The day to day will include:

  • Progress detailed designs from the Creative Director. Separate elements for manufacture. Make corrections and revisions to finalise all elements of design. Create 2D toolpaths for relevant components. Create stock details and 3D toolpaths for carved design elements.

  • Produce system schematics and technical product documentation. Maintain organized project documentation. Record and document current processes.

  • Support Project Management team in the delivery of projects. Attend development meetings and establish project timelines. Creation and update of bill of materials, cost proposals and reporting on any design changes with cost and time implications. Communicate potential design issues to design team.

  • Support Manufacturing team.  Provide ongoing support for the machine operators. Create instructions for workshop team to build stock, components and project as a whole.

  • Site inspections. Survey work to gather information, determine limitations and feasibility of designs. Ensuring drawings and designs are compliant with building regulations and engineering principles.

  • Ability to self-check own work prior to approval stage and issue drawings to the manufacturing department.

 

Skills & Experience:

  • At least 3 years of work experience as a CAD Designer, CAD Operator, or a similar role in a detailing department is preferred

  • Be educated to A-Level standard

  • Proficiency in CAD software Sketchup (essential) and Fusion 360 (desirable)

  • Driving Licence and access to own vehicle.

 

Key Information:

Salary:             £25-35K commensurate with experience.

Annual Leave: 28 days including bank holidays. ‍

Hours:             Full time, 8-6pm (4days a week). Part time/hybrid would be considered for the right candidate.

Supplemental pay:

  • Trimesterly pay review/bonus
